From January 1, 2021, the same rules for flying drones will apply to all European countries. These rules were devised and elaborated by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Enforcement of these rules lies with the national Civil Aviation Authorities. Where the previous national legislation was based on the distinction between private individuals and commercial drone users, EASA only considers the risk associated with a certain type of flight. Based on the risk, there are three categories:
Open-category
Specific-category
Certified-category
It is important to know that anyone ownes a drone heavier than 250 grams or a drone with a camera must register for an Operator-ID at the national CAA.
