About the course

The DronePilot Basic Light is an online course. With the help of texts, videos and illustrations, you will learn all the theory necessary for the mandatory EASA Open-category A1/A3. You can take as long as you want. When you are ready, you can take the exam at your own pace.

 

 

 

 

 

For who?

The course is designed for individuals flying drones in the European Union

  • equipped with a C1-label (lighter than 900 grams) in subcategory A1
  • equipped with a C2, C3 or C4-label in subcategory A3
  • not equipped with a Cx-label

Course content 

During the online training, the basics of the following topics are discussed:

  • Aviation regulation
  • Privacy and data protection
  • Security
  • Insurance
  • General knowledge of an unmanned aircraft
  • Human performance
  • Airspace restrictions
  • Flight Safety
  • Operational procedures

These topics are in line with the the knowledge requirements set by EASA. 

Exam

The online course is concluded with one online exam:

  • Exam for the EASA Open-category A1/A3 certificate, this exam consists of 40 questions.

At least 75% of the questions have to be answered correctly to pass the exam. You can take the exam at any time. Failed? No problem, there are 5 exam attempts are included in the price. 

Certificate

If you pass the exam at the end of the online course you will obtain the following certificate:

  • EASA Open-category A1/A3

With this certificate you can fly in the EU with drones lighter than 500 grams in Open-subcategory A1 or with drones heavier than 2 kilograms in Open-subcategory A3. The certificate is issued by RDW on behalf of the Dutch Civil Aviation Authority.
